William (Bill) G. Smith was elected Chairman of Board of Directors for The Groove Fund Incorporated at an October 2014 board meeting.
Fellowman Smith assumed the duties of the office November 1, 2014 and succeeds John Ridgeway who had served as chairman for the previous 5 years.
“John certainly established a high standard for administering the Fund and I look forward to continuing the progress that was made under his leadership.”, said Fellowman Smith. “Our plan is to grow The Groove Fund to the point where our awards cover an increased percentage of the students education expenses over their four year academic experience.”
A 1974 graduate of Lincoln University (PA), Fellowman Smith became a member of Mighty Lion Chapter in 1971. He holds an MBA from Temple University’s Fox School of Business Administration.
Bill is currently the Vice President of Finance and Chief Accounting Officer for The Cooper Health System. In addition he serves as Treasurer for the Cooper Foundation. Mr. Smith joined Cooper in April of 2001. He has more than 39 years of healthcare leadership and management experience; including an 18 year stay with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with increasing leadership responsibilities that led to Controller. His past experience encompasses consulting and serving in financial leadership positions at other institutions which were both profit and not-for-profit organizations.
Mr. Smith is very active in his community and currently serves as:
Chairman on the Board of Trustees for North East Treatment Centers, Inc. (NET); which is a non-profit corporation which provides services to Greater Philadelphia for Behavioral Health and Social Services.
A member of St. Matthews Baptist Church where he serves as Vice Chairman of the Deacon Board.
Executive Board member for the Boy Scouts of America – Garden State Region
Bill is married to Brenda G. Smith and resides in New Jersey. He is the father of two: Tamara Smith and Allison Smith-Simon.
