Robert E. (Bob) Simpson (“Tennessee”) was born on July 3, 1943 in Earle, Arkansas, and was raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He is a 1961 graduate of Manassas High School. Bob went on to attend Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated with a B.A. degree in 1965. While attending Morgan State, he was one of the founding members of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship. After graduation from Morgan, he served as an officer in the U.S. Army. He also held several managerial positions with Sears for 17 years.
Since 1983, he has owned and operated an independent State Farm Insurance Agency in Memphis.
Simpson has been extremely active in the Memphis community, serving on boards of many non profit organizations such as Lifeblood, The Leadership Academy/Goals for Memphis, The Black Business Association, MIFA, Memphis Workforce Development, and others. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Lemoyne/Owen College and the Mid South Junior Golf Association/First Tee of Memphis. He is also a judge and a supporter of the Memphis Urban Debate League.
He is an active member of Trinity C.M.E. Church where he sings in the male chorus, and serves as Chairman of the Steward Board.
Bob is an avid golfer, tennis player and runner/jogger. He competes in several 5K road races each year and is the 2010 Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure Memphis and 2011 Firecracker 5K Road Race champion for his age group. In 2010, he was selected as one of the 50 Outstanding Men of Memphis by The Tri-State Defender. He is a member of the Ad-In Tennis Club, The Sigma PI Fraternity and Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship..
He is married to Elizabeth Chase Simpson and resides in Memphis. He is father of three: Robert, Jr. (Kellie), Leiza McKenna (Warren) and Daniel Simpson. He is grandfather of six: Terisa, Robyn, and (triplets), Robert III, Olivia, Sophia and Adrienne.
